How to Build a Search-Engine-Friendly Website
To promote yourself to prospective clients, just having an attractive website is no longer enough. Where you turn up in search engine results on Google, Yahoo, AOL, etc. really matters, because it’s no use having a great-looking website if no one can find it. That’s where search engine optimization, or SEO, comes in. With the right tools, you can make sure the search engines know you exist—which is the best way to attract visitors.
Join Freelancers Union and Jennifer Shaheen to learn the basics of designing a search-engine-friendly website, whether you’re starting from the ground up or revising your current website. Jennifer will teach you how to drive traffic to your site and help grow your business. Topics will include:
· What constitutes a search-engine-friendly website
· The difference between what you see and what a search engine sees
· Thinking ahead to stay on top of the engines
· Best practices for SEO (search engine optimization)
· The importance of copywriting on your site—what visitors look for and what search engines look for
For this seminar, you should have a basic understanding of what goes on behind a web page, what html is, what a web browser is, and what a search engine is. This class is suitable for people who want to personally implement the techniques they learned, or for those who want to be able to speak knowledgably with the web developers they hire.
