Empire Health Insurance Update

Important note: If you enrolled in Empire coverage starting January 1, any care you've received since that date is covered under your new plan, regardless of whether you had an Empire ID number when you saw you doctor.

01/04/2008 Update

Dependents on your plan

  • The vast majority of dependents on our members' plans are already in the Empire system. Empire is aware of the issue of the few who aren't, and they're working on it right now. All dependents will be in the system on Monday, 1/7. As soon as we get word that all the dependents have been recognized by Empire, we'll announce it.

Pharmacy benefits

  • Some members have had trouble registering for their Caremark pharmacy benefits. Caremark will have all our members in their system by Monday, 1/7. We're sorry about this delay, and if you need to pick up a prescription in the meantime, you'll be able to get a reimbursement for your out-of-pocket costs according to your plan.

01/03/2008 Update

As of this morning you can register on Empire’s website and print out a temporary insurance card that you can use until you get your permanent card. Visit www.empireblue.com, click on register, and follow the prompts. Where it asks for your Empire ID, enter your social security number. Your permanent card should arrive in the mail around January 14.

If you completed the open enrollment form after December 27, you may not be in Empire’s system yet. If you have a medical emergency or doctor’s appointments in the next few days, please call us at 718-222-1099 or 866-420-5807, or email us at membership@freelancersunion.org, and we will expedite you into the system.

Some members have told us that their dependents are not showing up as enrolled on their plans. If you are having this issue, please email us benefits@freelancersunion.org or call us at 866-420-5807.
