1. Catch Freelancers Unionon PBS this Friday

A special episode of NOW, the PBS newsmagazine hosted by David Brancaccio, will feature Freelancers Union on Friday, February 15. Part of the show’s “Enterprising Ideas” series, the program focuses on the emergence of independent workers as a powerful constituency, and the importance of new institutions (like Freelancers Union!) to support them. Tune in to see members of Freelancers Union at a discussion with New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Patricia Smith, as well as an interview with Executive Director Sara Horowitz. The show will air on February 15 at 8:30pm EST. Check the NOW website to find out where to view it in your area.

2. Our first networking party of 2008!

Join us Tuesday, February 26 at People Lounge in Manhattan for drinks and the chance to meet some of the other interesting, creative, entrepreneurial folks that belong to Freelancers Union. Our networking parties usually fill up fast, so be sure to register soon. Visit our events page for more information and registration.

3. Survey: We're fixing Gigs! Tell us what you're looking for in a job board.

You have been telling us for years that you need a trusted place to post and find jobs, so we launched our Gigs service about a year ago. We think it can be much much better, though, and we'd like to get your feedback as we gear up to improve it. What are you looking for in a job board? Who should be able to post jobs? Should the board be open to everyone or limited to members only? Tell us what you think in our new Gigs survey.

4. Featured discount: Down to Earth Finance teleconference

Freelancers Union members have access to a new discount.

Galia Gichon, a veteran Freelancers U instructor, is offering members a 25% discount on her new, 7-part teleclass series. Down to Earth Finance’s “7 Weeks to Financial Sanity” starts Tuesday, March 4th, 6:30 - 7:30 EST, and covers topics ranging from budgeting and debt reduction to saving for retirement and paying off a mortgage. To take advantage of the 25% discount for Freelancers Union members, visit our discounts page.

5. Raffle! Win two tickets to Macbeth at BAM

This month, Freelancers Union members have a chance to win two tickets to Macbeth on March 18, in which Patrick Stewart boldly reasserts his reputation as one of the great Shakespearean actors of our time. Teaming up with rising star director Rupert Goold, this harrowing study of the seductive nature of power has drawn rave reviews and promises to be remembered as a Spring Season highlight. For more info, visit BAM’s website.
