1. Membership drive: Look at California go!
We want to build up our membership to 75,000 by Independence Day 2008, and we're counting on you to spread the word. The tool everyone’s using is our “Join the Movement” button, which you can add to your blog or website—trust us, it really works. California, Georgia, and Illinois are growing fast. You can help your state rise in the rankings by telling your friends to join us.
Learn more about the membership drive and watch our progress on the advocacy page.
2. Our website got a makeover--and videos
It was time for a new look, so the Freelancers Union website got a makeover this week. The best part is the new videos on the homepage: profiles of three members and an animated short that explains who we are and what we do. This mini-relaunch is just the first phase of a series of improvements coming to the website over the next few months, so check back often to see what's new.
3. Freelancers U seminar: Should I Incorporate?
Sole Proprietorship, S-Corps, C-Corps, LLC—what’s right for you? Deciding whether to officially incorporate your freelance business is a complex decision that impacts your finances, taxes, bookkeeping requirements, and personal liability, and everyone’s needs are different. Join Freelancers U with Howard Samuels, CPA MST and Scott A. Lucas, Esq. on June 10 in Brooklyn for a seminar on the ins and outs of incorporating. Visit the events page for more information and registration.
4. Freelancers U online seminar: Generate an Endless Stream of Business Through Networking
How do you prospect for new clients without feeling like you're networking 24/7? Join Freelancers U and Liz Lynch for an online seminar that provides a step-by-step system to learn how. You know you need to network to grow your business, but you want to spend as little time on it as possible so you can get back to work. To find out more about this June 28 event, visit the events page.
5. Follow us on Twitter and meet us on Facebook
Always wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at Freelancers Union? Now you can, because we've been twittering every day about what we're up to. You can find and follow us here: https://twitter.com/freelancersu. Don't know what Twitter is? Watch this cool little video called "Twitter in Plain English." It really helped those of us in the office who still remember life before the Reagan years. You can also join Freelancers Union groups on MySpace and Facebook. And tell all your freelancer friends to join, too.
